How important do you believe it is to use your real name? Growing up as a child, I've always been told that the Internet is not a safe place, so my brain has been programmed to never use my real name on the Internet (apart from the obvious social network sites like FaceBook, of course).

However, I'm seeing every internet entrepreneur using his/her real name. I understand that branding is very important in the world of entrepreneurship/business, but I just can't seem to get myself to reveal my personal information. I personally like having the power of anonymity. =\

For those who use their real name, do you ever worry about people attacking you personally using your private name/pics and stuff?

Does anyone else NOT like the new Google Instant? It is messing up all the SEO people have done. The search results that are returned as you type in your keyword are not the same as the ones that are returned when you type all of it at once before hitting submit. I'm sure the Internet Marketing community will do something to get onboard with the new algorithm. But yeah, that's extra work.

I was inspired by events that occurred today. I bought RCL (Royal Caribbean) yesterday and intended to sell it today and rebuy at a lower price. I checked what it was doing in the morning and put in a sell order for only 1.2% up from what I bought it at -- while I was at school, it went up an additional 1.7%, and I would have made around $170 more.

I'm curious as to what all of you that trade frequently do while at school to ensure that you don't suffer too badly.

Hey, i've not been posting on the forum much lately!

I've closed BandShift down at the moment, I need to have most of my focus on school this year so I can get into University at the end of the school year. But I'm going to be still making websites for bands, just not appearing as a 'company' just a one-to-one kind of thing.

I recently attended a Young Game Designers workshop ran by the University I want to go to, and the BAFTA group. It was weekend where we were shown what it takes to create video games, and we made our own in teams.

I had it planned that I was eventually going to do either Game Design, or Programming, so i'm going to take less focus on doing web design, and start learning some languages like C#/C++ , and get into XNA! (a Microsoft thing where you submit your game, if approved, it goes onto the Xbox Live market place, where people can buy it, and you get 70% of the profits!) My girlfriend who is very talented at art and is considering doing Computer Arts, will be doing the artwork for my games, so hopefully I can start my own game studio. :)

And i've signed up for my local Council's "Dragon's Lair" which is their version of the tv show, Dragon's Den. I'm the "IT Director" of the Young Enterprise class in my school, where we set up and run our own business for the year, and compete in regional, national, international competitions (our school has won the regional competition 5 years in a row, and got near first place in the national one). And because I've set up my own online business, they wanted to put me forward to it. Alot of the people also applying from my school, don't seem much into business, and need to come up with a business and create a business plan for November, while I already have one, so I have an advantage! And the prize is a laptop & printer. :)

Really, all that is being asked on this thread is, what industries do you prefer to invest in, or — what do you invest in most? (Note: Even to the non-stock investors, you can say what industries you prefer to 'set-up shop' in :D)

Mine:

- Resources - Some people stick solely to oil, or steel, or copper, I vary, as there isn't too much difference between the way they run.

The companies values are mainly dependant on a 2 things:
1. The price of the commodity they produce... (which is calculated mainly on supply/demand)
2. The companies as individuals (I.e. New big customers etc.) - things which change every stock.

- Technology
Despite being an idiot when it comes to web design and such, I do use technology a lot, so when it comes to investing in this, I am betting on 'new ideas' or in other words, things I like which other people should too :P

- Finance
These are really investing in the market itself. If the stock exchange does well, that means the investment division of banks does well. It can also be judged on currency movements, and a quite important one: the rate of interest the central banks charge.

Of course, I do invest in totally outrageous areas without any relevance to the above ^
I.e. In the past I have bought YUM!brands 'YUM' (fast food). But in general, I would say those 3 industries are my 'main' ones.

Salve,

I'm an [almost] 17yr old: Servus Dei, Home Schooled, entrepreneur, co-founder of GJX Hosting, web designer, minor photographer, run some live sound reinforcement, and am working on my naturalization into the Republic of Texas. Ya'll got that?

If you didn't let me explain again slower.

First, I use Latin. What? You don't know Latin? Well, then PM me if you don't know what I'm saying.

Second, I'm also an un-socialized Home Schooler; interact at you're own risk.

I've always been an entrepreneur at heart, more inclined to start the business and do it better than to work for someone else.

I've been running GJX Hosting ( GJXHosting.com ) with a friend for a little over two months now, no customers yet but we're about to re-brand and re-focus. Actually, we never really had a focus which is the main problem. If you've got questions about starting you're own reseller hosting business I'd love to help. (Or if you'd like to buy some hosting, that'd be cool to. :)

I've been into Web Design, Photography, and Live Sound Reinforcement for various lengths of time. Some day I might do any or all of those professionally, though probably not as careers.

And I live in the Bay Area, Houston, Tx.

I'm here to be able to bounce my ideas and thought off others, and hopefully help some others with theirs.

We're talking Englishmen on NASDAQ, Canadians on DAX and Americans on CAC.

What on earth am I talking about?

Investing abroad is something I do...

We're talking Englishmen on NASDAQ, Canadians on DAX and Americans on CAC.

What on earth am I talking about?

Investing abroad is something I do often, mainly on the NYSE.

Investing internationally carries more risks, there are the obvious forefront ones - it being a foriegn country, you have no solid idea of what is happening or what opinions are, just the etchi-scetch of what you look up, you may well think 'ChinaGolfSolutions' (if there is such a company?) is fantastic and way underpriced, but if it turns out they don't give the slightest about golf in China then that is bad news. These can affect your investments, but normally it is pretty easy to find relevant information.
E.g. I didn't expect the Chinese to like Junk food as much as they do - YUMBrands (holders of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC etc.) excelled.

The more important thing (I feel) that you to pay attention to: Currency.
You aren't just investing in Google, you are investing in the US Dollar. This can effect you largely. You may well make 10% profit on a US Stock, but if the £ rises 60% against the $ (example!), then we aren't seeing smiles. Working the other way around, if the pound drops 60% against the dollar, then we're getting huge gains.

Solutions?

- You don't need to be fluent in FOREX, you just have to avoid being a pleb. E.g. If Zimbabwe becomes stable, the last thing you would do is start selling Zimbabwean stock (therefore currency).
- There are some companies (well, probably a lot), which work with single currencies (but note that the stocks value still follows its currency, falling currency can sometimes be negative or positive for a stock.)

*It isn't the end of the world! We are talking dramatic changes in currency value, which does happen, but rarely, a 1-10% change won't break your arm off.
